Breckenridge, Colorado, nestled in the heart of the Rocky Mountains, is a picturesque mountain town renowned for its stunning natural beauty, world-class ski resorts, and charming historic district. In the winter, it transforms into a premier ski destination, offering some of the best skiing and snowboarding in North America, while the summer months beckon hikers, mountain bikers, and those looking to explore the pristine wilderness that surrounds the town. And within this adorable town, there's one spot that is totally different than all the others - Castaway's Cove Tiki Torch Bar.
I recently dined here four times over a 6 month period. It's a delightful Hawaiian restaurant, and the experience was nothing short of memorable. From the moment you step through the door, you're transported to an adorable, fun tropical paradise. Imagine a Tiki Bar (indoors) and you're there. Castaway's Cove Tiki Torch Bar's ambiance was warm and inviting, with Hawaiian music playing softly in the background and tasteful island-inspired decor. You'll smell the wonderful food and cocktails as you hear the laughter and joy throughout the dining area. The atmosphere of this place cannot be beat! Even in the snowy mountains of Breckenridge this place manages to bring you down to Hawaii for a tropical meal and a delicious tiki bar.
The staff are hardworking and friendly, and the service is very attentive. This place is located off the main road and is much quieter, a great break from the bustling town. Going into it I was prepared for disappointment as I am underage, so I was a bit bummed I couldn't have any "fancy" tropical drinks. However, much to my surprise, they had a section on their drink menu with non-alcoholic tropical drinks! So I ordered the virgin pina colada, and ate the teriyaki chicken bowl with rice. Both were absolutely delicious.
And throughout my experiences here, I need to give the staff another 'kudos.' Without question, some of the friendliest and most attentive I've ever encountered. They are knowledgeable about the menu, ready to offer suggestions, and ensure that your dining experience is nothing short of perfect. Their warm smiles and hospitality make you feel like a welcomed guest. They truly bend over backwards to make them feel comfortable.
The food at Castaway's Cove is an absolute delight. The menu is a fusion of tropical and international flavors, with a special focus on seafood. From mouthwatering coconut shrimp to savory island-inspired entrees, every dish is prepared with care and attention to detail. The presentation is artistic, and the flavors are a celebration for your taste buds. Additionally, the salmon and coconut shrimp both tasted super fresh (especially surprising given that we're landlocked and in the mountains).
If you'd like a personal recommendation: order (1) the brown curry pork fries, (2) crab rangoons, (3) Mochiko chicken skewers and (4) their homemade Keylime pie. You won't be disappointed.
Without a doubt, Castaways Cove in Breckenridge, Colorado is a delightful surprise to experience. Honestly, it's not often that you can find a tiki bar in Colorado with good food and drinks and this restaurant met the expectations. The daiquiris during happy hour are delicious and just the right amount of alcohol and flavor. After four visits, I feel confident is saying that their entrées are outstanding. Without a doubt, the Poké bowls are some of the best that I have had. And if you love crispy jalapeños, you'll adore this place. The chicken dinner is delicious and there was plenty of it; wonderful portions. Every meal offers plenty of food. Regardless if you're ordering soups, appetizers, cocktails or desserts, you'll be more than happy with your choices. Great ambience, terrific service, delicious food! I highly recommend this little gem of a restaurant! What more can I say? Pay this spot a visit!
