Mawas Kitchen Aspen - An Excellent Spot When Hunger Strikes

There's no question that Aspen, Colorado, is a picturesque and renowned mountain resort town nestled in the heart of the Rocky Mountains. Nearly everyone inside and outside of Colorado knows this, and it is celebrated for its breathtaking natural beauty, with the iconic Maroon Bells and their pristine alpine lakes as one of its most famous landmarks. Beyond its stunning landscapes, Aspen is also known for its world-class skiing, making it a winter paradise for outdoor enthusiasts. In addition to its outdoor recreational opportunities, Aspen offers a vibrant cultural scene, featuring the Aspen Music Festival, Aspen Art Museum, and the historic Wheeler Opera House. This combination of natural splendor and cultural richness has made Aspen a sought-after destination for both outdoor adventurers and those seeking a refined mountain getaway. Some dining spots match the magic of the town - for food, service, ambiance and vibe. And one of those spots is Mawas Kitchen Aspen. It is, in my humble opinion, one of the best spots in the entire city.

Mawas is an amazing addition to the Aspen Valley. It's located right across the street from the airport, Mawa's is close to all and has a casual ambiance. If you're more thirsty than hungry, they even offer a full service bar. I've visited this spot six times in the past two years. During my first visit, We came for breakfast. I had the classic eggs Benedict and my hubby had the American breakfast with pork sausage and home made white bread. Out of this world. My hubby could not stop raving about the flavor. The breakfast potatoes were perfectly crisp on the outside and soft inside. His eggs were perfectly over medium and the sausage was outstanding. We enjoyed everything about it - sensory overload! There is rye within the sausage and the taste was amazing. When the bread was served, we were not looking forward to it. We aren't bread people, but his was so good. Toasted perfectly.

As for my Eggs Benedict, it was very rich! The hollandaise sauce is amazing and preparing it on a latke was a nice touch, it added a wonderful crispy ness to each bite. There was a tad too much jambon put on for my taste but it was perfectly prepared. The side salad that came with it had a great vinaigrette and I'm usually not big on mixed greens salad. Everything was win-win-win.

When you first walk into the restaurant, it's super nice and clean and cute inside and way bigger than expected, definitely did not expect such a nice place based on the first impression offered up from the outside. The service was super friendly and the food was incredible. For dinner, I recommend ordering the Duck Confit Chilaquiles, Maine Smoked Salmon Benedict and a chocolate croissant for dessert. If that doesn't sound good to you, consider ordering their Shrimp and Grits; so flavorful and delicious.

Now, if you're in the mood for a delicious breakfast in Aspen (not located withinin the downtown area) this spot is ideal for you. As I mentioned earlier, we were blown away with our first breakfast experience, so we had to try it again one month ago. My hubby and I enjoyed a full breakfast, including a matcha lavender latte, buttermilk pancakes, and the Parisienne omelette. The latte was great and definitely had an authentic matcha flavor but the lavender was lacking. The buttermilk pancakes were so fluffy and delicious, the most delicious and fluffy pancakes were had in a long time. Adding berries was the right choice. The Parisienne omelette was super delicious and filling and the mushrooms were so good. Service was good and attentive. Highly recommend, but definitely on the pricier side for breakfast...but let's be honest, it is Aspen. Expect prices to be a little higher than normal.

This place is kind of hard-to-find and tucked back from the main road but totally worth visiting. We were really craving breakfast/brunch food and Mawa's hit the spot!

Parking is easy and it's similar to most suburban office complexs. I was a little confused driving there and parking the first time, but it all worked out.

Mawa is hilarious and welcoming. The staff was knowledgeable and friendly and so very attentive. For all you travelers, Mawa's Kitchen is filled with staff from all over the world, so make sure you get the goods for your next non-Aspen vacation. Note: Apple Maps works fine, just know that it's actually upstairs.

Consider Mawas during your next visit to Aspen, Colorado. The food is very good. The service always so friendly and attentive. While it's not in the most convenient location for those in Aspen, it's also not crammed with tourists. You don't feel rushed or overwhelmed with crowds. Seating on outside patio is good, and the indoor decor is nice. They also have a full bar, very good hibiscus ice tea, and good coffee.
