Homemade Pasta in Denver - Dio Mio

Updated: Aug 31, 2023

Unless your diet (for weight loss or gluten allergies) restricts your eating habits, you are like me - you adore pasta. I probably eat pasta (in one form of another) about three times per week. Not only is it easy to cook and enjoy, but the varieties of flavors, textures and concepts are practically unlimited. And when you have the opportunity to sample homemade, fresh pasta that's made by a true expert in the field, it's hard to 'go back' to microwavable spaghetti. Well, in the heart of Denver, one spot does not disappoint when it comes to amazing pasta - Dio Mio.

Dio Mio makes their pasta and bread in-house...daily. Using seasonal and local ingredients allows them to change their menu frequently and they've been making handmade pasta in Denver daily - since November 2016.

Before writing this blog, I paid this spot four visits. My goal was to ensure that my reviews and data would be honest and consistent for the readers, figuring if I detect the 'good' and the 'bad' a few times in a row, I'd have a fair and clear-cut assessment of Dio Mio.

First of all, they make their pasta in house...and it shows. The flavor, consistency and texture of the pasta is a clear signal that what you eat is made in the kitchen. The complimentary bread that's served with the pasta is equally impressive (soft, with a crispy crust lightly brushed in salt).

Over the the first three visits (out of a total of four), I ordered the following items: Rigatoni with fennel sausage, Mixed Greens, Chili and Bread Crumbs and the Cacio e Pepe. All were fantastic - sizable portions and bursting with flavor.

On my fourth and final visit, I brought my husband. This guy is a legit fresh pasta connoisseur. He experiments with past at home, creates numerous fresh concepts, reads about pasta prep continually and I wanted this expert assessment. Well, for him, and this place did the trick. He called it a 'fun, Funky atmosphere with quality pasta.'

He and I started with the olives, which were fine. Nothing mind-blowing but it's merely a small starter to get the ball rolling. Then, we ordered the Sourdough and Burrata which were amazing! He remarked - "I could have eaten that dish all day long." Then, I ordered the Rotolo for dinner, which was unexpectedly delicious. For his entree, my hubby ordered the Fettuccine with tomato puttanesca and lamb, which he very much enjoyed. I will not that he did request extra red sauce, and the kitchen gladly obliged with a smile.

Now, again...keep in mind, this guy is picky when it comes to pasta. And his assessment was 'excellent.'

Bottom-line, this place provides fantastic, homemade pasta. Sit back and sip on a glass of wine while you share a few appetizers and sample a few amazing pasta dishes.

Everything at Dio Mio is terrific and you will truly enjoy your meal. It will be 'an experience.' The wait staff is friendly and helpful and I highly recommend the meat platter to start and one of their Italian cocktails.

Five final details that might interest you:

1. They have indoor/outdoor seating but it's all first come-first serve so groups bigger than 4 might have trouble getting seated.

2. Dogs are allowed on the outside patio. Fur-babies have rights, too, you know.

3. Keep in mind that you order your meal(s) and pay at the counter and then the staff drops off your food at your table.

4. It's best to keep in mind that the menu is limited menu but that's intentional. When you order a main course, it can be pair the pasta with other proper food items to blend in flavor.

Pay this spot a visit! You won't be disappointed.
