La Marmotte - Telluride’s Culinary Symbol of quality

Before I really get going, let me say this - by far this was the best dinner I've ever had in telluride - best food and best experience. That's how I'm starting this blog post.

I work part time in Real Estate and I'm often in the mountains of Telluride to meet with a client. It's not a continual trek into the valley, but it's often enough. And when I'm in town, I always seek something special. Well, my team and I were seeking something wonderful to do and we asked four people for their personal recommendations of a fine dining, unique experience. All four said - "La Marmotte." All four had the same response. So, we said 'that's good enough for us.'

This was a stellar dining experience and the ambiance is a charming classic French restaurant. Thanks to the weather being ideal, we sat outside where the weather was perfect and service was attentive. Our group started with the Charcuterie plate. I'm just now looking at the menu. Outstanding; the flavor was elevated by the mustard and radish. We also shared the marinated olives. Spectacular.

Course after course, we were amazed. From one of our team, the melon gazpacho was so refreshing. From another person, the risotto with fresh peas and mushrooms beyond delicious. I could go on and on. We all agreed that wverything was outstanding, full of complex but subtle flavors. And the desserts - (hint, hint...save room for it) because they are original and artfully presented. It appeared that everyone else around us was commenting on how the service was fantastically attentive and perfectly timed with a delightful atmosphere.

By the third course, it was obvious that this was going to be one of my favorite meals in Telluride. I knew before I even received the bill. In fact, one of my team has dietary restrictions (gluten and dairy) and I was so impressed that Maggie, the Executive Sous Chef came to the table to discuss each course with her. Wow.

I had the foix gras - which I never thought I would try in a million years and it was delicious! All the flavors blended together and it was incredible! The wagyu steak was to die for - one of the best steaks of my life. And Maggie took a simple sorbet for dessert and dressed it up with fruit and honey to make it really something special since I couldn't eat the other desserts. Our waitress, Kaylie, was top notch, friendly, had great suggestions and only stopped by our table if we weren't talking or eating. I can't say enough great things about this restaurant - it's a must if you are in Telluride, especially if you are looking for quiet romance!

Bottom-line, the food was absolutely delicious and worth the price, which was very reasonable in my opinion! When I received the bill, it was pricey and I still said - 'Worth it.' Great atmosphere, great service. Would highly recommend to anyone visiting Telluride who loves good food. Take my word for it. You'll love it. Just make your reservation long in advance.
